WHAT
Watsu is a form of water treatment that provides deep relaxation and passive water therapy. Watsu is performed as a one-on-one session in which a therapist gently rocks, moves, stretches and massages a recipient in shallow warm water.

WHY
During a Watsu session, the recipient's heart rate and respiration rate decrease, the respiration depth increases, muscle tone decreases, and the recipients report a deep state of relaxation.

Through Watsu, the autonomic nervous system is balanced, the sympathetic response is reduced and the parasympathetic response is increased.

The consequence of this is that many patients and clinics report psychological benefits such as stress reduction and resolution of previous trauma.

HOW
Watsu is performed in one-on-one sessions in shallow warm water. During the session, a therapist moves, stretches and massages a recipient. A typical session consists of a progression of breathing, movement patterns in different positions and massage.

A session can last anywhere from a few minutes to longer than an hour.
